8 years ago today, India lost a brave Gorkha soldier whose courage and unwavering fighting spirit continue to inspire us all.
๐ฏ๏ธ Rifleman Ram Babu Shahi, of 1 Gorkha Rifles, serving with 32 Rashtriya Rifles, made the supreme sacrifice on 17 August 2018 during an anti-insurgency operation in Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir.
Acting on intelligence about the presence of heavily armed terrorists in Kachhlu village of Rafiabad, a joint force comprising the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police launched a carefully planned operation on 17 August 2018. Rifleman Ram Babu Shahi was part of the Army contingent tasked with cordoning off the area and flushing out the terrorists.
As the search operation progressed, the terrorists opened heavy fire from their hiding positions, triggering a fierce gun battle. In the intense exchange of fire, Rifleman Ram Babu Shahi was critically wounded while fighting alongside his comrades. Despite being evacuated to the Army's 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar, he succumbed to his injuries, laying down his life in the line of duty. Jai Hind!
