During a counter-infiltration operation along the Line of Control in the snow-bound Gurez sector of Bandipora district, troops of 36 Rashtriya Rifles detected the movement of heavily armed terrorists attempting to infiltrate from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under the cover of darkness.
Leading from the front, Maj Kaustubh Prakash Rane swiftly led his team to intercept the infiltrators. A fierce firefight followed in the challenging mountainous terrain, during which the soldiers displayed exceptional courage and determination, successfully eliminating two terrorists and foiling the infiltration attempt.
🕯️ In the intense exchange of fire, Maj Kaustubh Prakash Rane, Rifleman Mandeep Singh Rawat, Rifleman Hameer Singh, and Gunner Vikram Jeet Singh sustained grievous injuries while fighting valiantly. They later succumbed to their injuries at the 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar, making the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. Jai Hind!
